DJ Boring

On 24 May 2026, Newspeak in Montreal hosts DJ Boring, the stage name of Australian Tristan Hallis. Based in London, he has developed since the mid-2010s an approach nourished by club culture, situated between house, breakbeat, techno and rave heritage. Breakthrough single “Winona” in 2016 brought him recognition, and he has since broadened his spectrum: four-on-the-floor rhythms and more broken structures now coexist, carried by warm textures and airy pads, with nods to 1990s and 2000s dance music. In his DJ sets he blends recent releases with older tracks, seamlessly woven into a continuous progression that preserves the floor’s energy without sacrificing melodic space. His practice, straddling production and performance, has been documented in formats such as the Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1 and a Boiler Room appearance. At Newspeak he delivers a club-focused set: centered on groove, precise in transitions, and wide in its sonic palette.
