Sun Kil Moon

Sun Kil Moon, the long-running project of Mark Kozelek, comes to The Pearl, Vancouver, BC, on Friday, September 4th, 2026. Launched in 2002 after Red House Painters, the project leans into slow-moving folk rock and a diaristic writing style where fingerpicked guitars carry everyday scenes, names, places and memories. Early touchstones like Ghosts of the Great Highway and Tiny Cities set the frame: patient tempos, unvarnished vocals, narratives that linger. Over time, Kozelek has pared the sound back and stretched the form, moving toward a spoken-sung delivery that reads like field notes set to melody, as heard on Among the Leaves, Benji and Universal Themes.

On stage, the focus stays on the words and the steady pulse of the guitar, leaving room for detours, repetition and open structures, sometimes thickened by the presence of special guests. The set circles between older pieces and more recent material, letting songs unfold at their own pace before locking into a clearer line. Sun Kil Moon’s live show keeps close to the grain of the writing: intimate, narrative-driven and anchored by the small details that make the stories feel lived-in.
