High On Fire

On 12 August 2026 High On Fire will perform at TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht. The trio led by guitarist and vocalist Matt Pike (Sleep) has been forging since 1998 a dense blend of stoner, sludge and doom, characterized by repetitive riffs, a massive guitar sound and tempos that often shift toward thrash. The early records The Art of Self Defense and Surrounded by Thieves set the tone; with Blessed Black Wings and Death Is This Communion the songwriting tightened, featuring sharp transitions between fast sections, heavier passages and dark atmospheres.

Afterwards, Snakes for the Divine, De Vermis Mysteriis and Luminiferous carried that line forward, always built on the band’s stage sensibility — a group that thrives on pulse and volume. Electric Messiah and the recent Cometh the Storm have maintained that course: saturated guitars up front, Pike’s gravelly vocals in the middle, and the rhythm section as anchor. Live it’s about tension and repetition that drive without detour. In Utrecht this comes together in a set that mixes old favorites and new material, with tight breaks, slow, plodding passages and sections that pick up the pace.
