Formed in Los Angeles and led by singer, bassist and guitarist Blackie Lawless, the band came out of the Sunset Strip with a mix of shock rock, sharp riffs and big choruses carried by a taste for theatrical staging. The opening run — W.A.S.P. (1984), The Last Command (1985) and Inside the Electric Circus (1986) — laid the groundwork before a darker, more structured turn on The Headless Children, a shift that broadened their sound without breaking from hard rock roots.
