Tygers Of Pan Tang
Formed in Whitley Bay, in northeast England, Tygers Of Pan Tang emerged in the late 1970s in the wake of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, with a sound that blends direct heavy metal, nervous hard rock and melodies more assertive than those of many bands in the same scene. The band first made a name for itself with Wild Cat in 1980, then followed with Spellbound and Crazy Nights in 1981, before The Cage in 1982, a period marked by several lineup changes, including the departure of guitarist John Sykes. After an initial split in the early 1980s, then a relaunch with The Wreck-Age in 1985 and Burning in the Shade in 1987, Tygers Of Pan Tang again ceased activities before returning from 1999 onward. Since that reform led by guitarist Robb Weir, the band has pursued a career centered on live performance and recording, notably Mystical in 2001, Noises from the Cathouse in 2004, Animal Instinct in 2008, Ambush in 2012, Tygers of Pan Tang in 2016, Ritual in 2019 and Bloodlines in 2023. Today anchored around Robb Weir and singer Jacopo Meille, Tygers Of Pan Tang maintains an approach rooted in classic British heavy metal, consisting of incisive riffs, clear choruses and a playing energy faithful to its origins.
