Steve Vai comes to TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht on June 11, 2027 with a set that centers on his instrumental rock and metal. Since he began as a transcriber for Frank Zappa and during his years in Zappa's band, Vai has developed his own language: razor-sharp riffs, rapid melodic lines, unexpected twists, and a sensibility for composition that owes as much to prog as to hard rock. His solo work, from Flex-Able and the benchmark Passion and Warfare to Inviolate and Vai/Gash, shows how he balances technique and songwriting without sacrificing momentum.
The Metropole Orchestra, founded in 1945 and grown into a mainstay between big band and symphonic orchestra, gives that music an extra dimension. With a powerful rhythm section, a broad string section, and a tradition of tailor-made arrangements, the orchestra moves effortlessly between jazz, pop, cinematic soundscapes, and crossover projects. That flexibility makes it the ideal partner to unfold Vai's compositions: bigger, more layered, and with room for detail, dynamics, and tension.
