Gallowstreet

On 3 April 2026 Gallowstreet lands at TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht. The Amsterdam brass band stacks trumpets and trombones atop a driving sousaphone bass and drums, producing a sound that leans on instrumental hip‑hop, funk, jazz and club energy. It’s music built on riffs and grooves, made for movement and for the collective rather than for solos. The foundation is the sousaphone, which rumbles like an electronic bassline, over which short, sharp hooks and rhythms reference boombap as much as house.

Since the mid‑2010s Gallowstreet has earned its stripes on the streets, in clubs and at festivals; that live background is audible in the compact arrangements and call‑and‑response themes. Their debut Battleplan (2016) set the tone with original material; Our Dear Metropolis (2020) nudged the arrangements and atmospheres closer to the cinematic without losing the immediate live character. Expect a set that builds in layers, from tight breaks to long grooves, with brass that sings like a choir and drums that hold the tempo. Not a nostalgic brass band, but a city orchestra that speaks to the contemporary dancefloor.
