The Terrys

South of Sydney, on the coast of New South Wales, The Terrys came together in 2020 around a core group of friends living on a farm nicknamed Camp Terry in the Gerringong area. The band sits within an Australian indie- and surf-rock vein, with touches of garage pop, melodic guitars and a laid-back vocal style that draws directly from local coastal culture. From their earliest singles The Terrys established a rhythmic, straightforward approach, driven by simple choruses and song structures that focus on collective energy rather than virtuosity. In 2021 the quintet issued their first EP, The TerrySonic Mixtape, collecting those early tracks and defining the contours of their sonic identity. They followed with extensive touring across Australia, playing mid-sized venues and regional events, which reinforced their foothold on the independent scene. Their debut album True Colour arrived in 2022, extending the surf-rock aesthetic with slower tempos and a few more introspective songs, without abandoning the direct, convivial tone that characterises the band's writing.
