The Bridge City Sinners

Based in Portland, Oregon, The Bridge City Sinners occupy the North American folk‑punk scene by combining traditional music heritage with punk energy. The band, built around vocalist Libby Lux and a core of musicians in varying lineups, crafts an acoustic sound driven by banjo, fiddle, double bass and brass, where old‑time folk, bluegrass, street‑jazz touches and a dark atmosphere — which the group often calls “death folk” — intersect. The Bridge City Sinners first drew attention with intense live shows and DIY tours, before consolidating their discography with a self‑titled debut in 2016, followed by Here’s to the Devil (2019), Unholy Hymns (2021) and In the Age of Doubt (2023). Their lyrics, frequently narrative, explore subverted religious themes, tales of society’s margins and macabre imagery, all handled with recurring black humor. On stage as on record, The Bridge City Sinners cultivate a direct relationship with the audience—close to the spirit of street brass bands—while remaining rooted in a contemporary folk aesthetic shaped by punk and alternative scenes.
