Baiuca
Born in 1990 in Catoira, Galicia, Alejandro Guillán Castaño develops, under the name Baiuca, a project situated between electronic music, pop and Galician traditions, often associated with folktronica. Before Baiuca he worked under the alias Alex Casanova, with a repertoire closer to synth-pop, notably on the 2014 album Antagonasia. The turning point came in 2017, when Baiuca refocused his work on Galician popular forms, vocal traditions and dance rhythms, combining them with a restrained, pulsing electronic production. This shift is audible from the first releases under the Baiuca name and is consolidated on Solpor (2018), where he establishes an aesthetic that blends regional folklore, contemporary textures and a taste for repetitive motifs. The project later expanded through collaborations with artists such as Aliboria, Rodrigo Cuevas on Veleno, Carlos Núñez on Solstício and Leilía, while maintaining coherence around Galicia’s imaginaries, languages and repertoires. With Embruxo (2021) and Barullo (2024), Baiuca continues to explore the dialogue between traditional heritage and contemporary music, both on stage and at electronic and cross-disciplinary festivals in Spain and Europe.
