Flower Face
Under the name Flower Face, Ruby McKinnon has been developing an intimate music from Canada that sits at the crossroads of goth-folk, folk-pop and a lo-fi pop sensibility inherited from her beginnings. Born in Windsor, Ontario and later based in Montréal, she started with classical piano before self-releasing her first songs as a teenager on Bandcamp in a spare bedroom-pop format. Flower Face released Every Part of You That’s Left in Me in 2013 and Homesick in 2014 — two records that established a world of acoustic guitars, soft vocals and dark but never heavy atmospheres. With Fever Dreams (2017) and Baby Teeth (2018), Flower Face sharpened her songwriting and tightened her arrangements while keeping a strongly narrative and introspective approach. The Shark in Your Water, released in 2022, continued this evolution with a broader production, and Girl Prometheus in 2024 confirmed a balance between melancholic folk, pop tension and gothic imagery. Alongside her solo releases, Flower Face has also lent her voice to tracks by Dean Drouillard and Oliver Ignatius.
