In Chicago’s rap scene, Lucki has developed since the early 2010s an aesthetic that blends slowed trap, hazy atmospheres and introspective writing. Born in 1996 and initially active under the name Lucki Eck$, he drew attention with the mixtape Alternative Trap (2013), where he set an apathetic, disillusioned tone over minimalist productions. Lucki followed with Body High (2014) and the Freewave series, which consolidated an approach focused on themes of addiction, mental fatigue and an ambiguous relationship to success. The mixtape Watch My Back (2017) and Freewave 3 (2019) marked a milestone by broadening his online audience while retaining a sound close to Chicago’s underground and internet rap scenes. The rapper continued with Days B4 III (2019) and Almost There (2020), before collaborating closely with producer F1lthy on Wake Up Lucki (2021), further grounding his music in a dark, repetitive register. With the album Flawless Like Me (2022), Lucki extends this signature of nonchalant flows, melancholic loops and fragmented narratives that chronicle his personal experience within contemporary American rap.
