Blawan

Under the name Blawan, Jamie Roberts has been developing since the early 2010s a trajectory situated between British techno, the legacy of UK garage, post-dubstep and industrial inflections. Originally from South Yorkshire and associated with Barnsley, Blawan emerged in 2010 with the single "Fram / Iddy" on Hessle Audio, before releasing on R&S Records and establishing a style built on dry rhythms, struck percussion, taut basslines and an intensive focus on sonic material. His early productions remained tied to the English bass scene, after which Blawan gradually hardened his approach toward a more abrasive, repetitive and physical techno. The track "Why They Hide Their Bodies Under My Garage?" accompanied this rise in club visibility, while his remix of Radiohead's "Bloom" appeared in 2011 on TKOL RMX 1234567. Alongside his solo work, Blawan formed the duo Karenn with Pariah, oriented toward raw, direct techno. Blawan's discography includes the album Wet Will Always Dry (2018), as well as EPs such as Peaches (2011), His He She & She (2012), Hanging Out the Birds (2015), Nutrition (2017) and Dismantled Into Juice (2023).
