ShitKid

Led by Swedish musician Åsa Söderqvist, ShitKid is rooted in a lo-fi rock vein where garage, off-kilter pop and punk echoes intersect. The project emerged in 2016 with the single “Oh Please Be A Cocky Cool Kid” and a self-titled debut EP released on the independent label PNKSLM Recordings, which established ShitKid’s trademark: raw recordings, stripped-down arrangements, a half-spoken, half-sung vocal and catchy choruses treated abrasively. The album Fish (2017) deepened this approach at the border of minimalist grunge and DIY pop, followed by the EP This Is It (2018) and Detention (2019), which leaned more directly toward punk and chamber-rock. In 2020 ShitKid released Duo Limbo / Mellan himmel å helvete, a collaboration with the American band Melvins, and the album 20/20 ShitKid, collecting different facets of Söderqvist’s writing between immediate songs and experimental detours. On stage ShitKid appears in varied settings — from clubs to festivals such as Roskilde, SXSW, The Great Escape and Way Out West — and has opened for artists like Melvins and U.S. Girls, placing the project at the heart of an international indie-rock network.
