Black Devil Disco Club

Behind Black Devil Disco Club stands Bernard Fevre, a French musician active in Paris, who launched this electronic disco project in the late 1970s under the pseudonym Junior Claristidge. The name is initially associated with Disco Club, released in 1978, a recording that remained long obscure before its 2004 reissue by Rephlex, which revived interest in this music located between cosmic disco, analog synthesis and dark atmospheres. Black Devil Disco Club then enters a second period of activity, with concerts and several albums released in the 2000s and 2010s, including 28 After in 2006, Black Devil in Dub in 2007, Eight Oh Eight in 2008, Circus in 2011, Black Moon White Sun in 2013 and Lucifer Is a Flower in 2020. The project remains centered on repetitive and hypnotic writing, made of dance rhythms, circular synth lines and nocturnal moods, in a lineage that crosses Italian disco, proto-electro and certain forms of experimental club music. As this revival progressed, Bernard Fevre also opened Black Devil Disco Club to occasional collaborations, notably on Circus, while preserving the singular identity of a project born on the fringes of the French disco scene.
