Info
There are nights that seem designed to disappear from reality. Devil’s Night Out happens precisely there: in that realm where the record becomes strange, the synthesizers acquire a psychedelic dimension and the dance floor functions as a laboratory.
For Halloween, Black Devil Disco Club, the project of French composer Bernard Fèvre, returns to Barcelona with a repertoire that directly connects with one of the most singular genealogies of electronic music. Before retrofuturism, italo disco and club electronics became recognizable categories, Fèvre was already working with his codes: drum machines, synthesizers, processed voices, spectral melodies, and a concept of the disco that seemed to come from a future not yet in existence.
In 1978, Disco Club appeared. Dark, psychedelic and deliberately strange, the album lingered for years in that space reserved for records that circulate hand to hand and become myths before they become hits. In 2004, Rephlex Records, the label associated with Aphex Twin, recovered the material and put it back into circulation. The result was almost archaeological: a recording decades old that sounded as if it had been made in some clandestine studio of the future. That temporal offset is what makes Black Devil Disco Club a distinctive figure. Its music does not belong entirely to any one era. It floats between disco, krautrock, synth-pop, electro, Italo, and the early mutations of club electronics.
The Ripofficers arrive from Barcelona with a blend of post-punk, synthwave and club electronics. Analog synthesizers, mechanical rhythms, and vocals in German, English, and French build a dark, physical, and deliberately nocturnal live set. Music for bodies in motion and cities after midnight.
Charlie Levan takes the helm from a DJ’s perspective. Cosmic disco, Italo, New Beat, acid, electro, house and techno appear as pieces of a single map, connected by a sensibility that treats the dance floor as a living organism. His selections do not follow genres; they follow signals.
Brendv Blu completes the journey with a contemporary take on the electronic underground. House, breakbeat, minimal, techno and trance cross in hypnotic and dynamic sets, built from the energy of the moment and the pursuit of that point where listening and dancing cease to be distinct things.
