Alexander Robotnick

Under the name Alexander Robotnick, Maurizio Dami has developed since the early 1980s a career closely linked to Italian electronic music, spanning Italo disco, electro, synth-pop and more experimental forms. Initially active in Avida, a dance- and cabaret-oriented group with Daniele Trambusti and Stefano Fuochi, Alexander Robotnick released the track «Problèmes d’amour» in 1983, which remains his most recognised piece. In 1984 he joined the multimedia collective Giovanotti Mondani Meccanici and composed for theatre, video and film, notably for Italian directors such as Alessandro Benvenuti, Antonio Climati, Marco Mattolini and Marco Risi. From the late 1980s his work opened up to collaborations with African, Kurdish and Indian musicians, and in 1996 he co-founded The Third Planet with Nazar Abdulla and Rashmi Bhatt, a project that blends Kurdish, Algerian and Indian traditions with an electronic approach. Alexander Robotnick launched the Hot Elephant Music label in 2000, collaborated with Ludus Pinsky on Underwater Café and with Max Durante on Oh no...Robotnick in 2002, and has since continued to work on archive reissues, remixes and projects such as Italcimenti.
