Mr. Flagio

Launched in Genoa in the early 1980s, Mr. Flagio brought together Flavio Vidulich and Giorgio Bacco around a short but striking italo disco formula, active between 1982 and 1984. The project sits within this Italian scene that blends synthpop, electronic disco and melancholic melodies, with a marked taste for mechanical rhythms, sober keyboard lines and vocals treated in a cold and distant manner. Mr. Flagio remains primarily associated with the single Take a Chance, released in 1983, which over time has become a landmark of italo disco for its balance between dreamy chorus, minimalist programming and nocturnal atmosphere. A second single, Get the Night, came out in 1984, in a comparable vein, before the band ended the same year. Although his discography is limited, Mr. Flagio continued to circulate in DJ selections and reissues devoted to European club music of the 1980s, as much in the synthwave and cold disco scenes as among lovers of Italo rarities. The name of Mr. Flagio thus remains tied to a simple, melodic and slightly hazy electronic aesthetic, typical of a period when Italy produced dance pop that was both accessible and singular.
