Knoll

Based in Memphis, Tennessee, Knoll occupies a space on the North American extreme metal scene, blending grindcore, deathgrind and black metal influences with a pronounced noise element. Formed in the late 2010s, the band revolves around a core of musicians who prioritize intensive touring and a strong presence within independent circuits. Knoll honed its writing on Interstice (2021) and further on Metempiric (2022) — records characterized by dissonant riffs, tempos pushed to the limit, abrasive textures and a prominently mixed shrieked vocal. The group cultivates a dark, dense aesthetic and explores themes of systemic violence, the body and alienation, often juxtaposed with an abstract, metaphysical imagery. On stage Knoll favors close, concentrated formats — small venues, squats and specialized festivals — and places particular emphasis on continuity between music, visuals and physical artifacts, notably through limited cassette and vinyl editions. This coherence of sound, iconography and DIY practice situates Knoll within a shifting network of contemporary extreme acts.
