Modern Color
In Los Angeles' South Bay, in Redondo Beach, Modern Color formed in the mid-2010s amid the local DIY scene. The band develops a rock that sits at the intersection of post-hardcore, shoegaze, emo and grunge, with thick guitars, often restrained tempos and a vocal delivery that remains direct without affectation. Modern Color first drew attention with short, tense tracks, before expanding its songwriting toward more atmospheric formats where melody takes a larger role without abandoning an abrasive foundation. Across its releases, Modern Color has found a balance between saturation, a sense of texture and introspective composition, which has allowed it to move through punk and hardcore networks as well as bills closer to indie rock. This trajectory remains tied to a very Californian aesthetic — between emotional urgency and muffled heaviness — with a sound that favors density over showmanship.
