jev.
Between the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa and Canada, jev.’s trajectory shapes a rap marked by exile and mobility. Born in 2000 in Kinshasa as Jephté Kewto, he first sought refuge in South Africa before settling in Canada in 2019, where he studied marketing at Carleton University in Ottawa. jev. began performing as a child, writing and producing his own tracks from the age of 12, and adopted the stage name jev. in 2015 while releasing his first songs and working at Staples. The turning point came in 2022 with the single "where’s the confetti", widely shared on TikTok, which announced his first studio album "the color grey." released on December 20, 2022 via Loner, inc. The record already outlines a fusion of old‑school and new‑school hip‑hop, drawing on both boom bap and chipmunk soul. Influenced notably by Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole and Nas, jev. has developed a style centered on wordplay, double meanings and shifting flows, giving equal weight to lyrics and instrumental construction. He followed with the EP "Lonerwrld, vol 1" in September 2023, opened for Lil Tjay on the Beat The Odds Tour the same year, and further explored this introspective universe with the album "when angels cry" in 2024 and "LONERWRLD, vol 2" in 2025, confirming jev. as a distinctive voice in Congolese‑Canadian rap.
