Rhye
Born from the meeting between Canadian singer Mike Milosh and Danish producer Robin Hannibal, Rhye emerged in the early 2010s as an alternative R&B project based in Los Angeles, blending minimalist soul, pop inflections, and downtempo-leaning rhythms. The first tracks, released online in 2012 alongside carefully crafted videos, gradually positioned Rhye on a spectrum between hushed electronics and intimate songwriting. The debut album, Woman (2013), laid the foundations for a world centered on Milosh’s soft, androgynous voice, stripped-down arrangements, and a strong focus on group dynamics both in the studio and on stage. Over the years, Robin Hannibal stepped back from the project and Rhye became primarily Mike Milosh’s artistic vehicle, as he developed an evolving live setup oriented toward organic instrumentation. The 2018 album Blood highlighted this more choral dimension, followed by Spirit in 2019—recorded in a more intimate, piano-centered register—and Home in 2021, which further reinforced the role of the live element in Rhye’s aesthetic. Between international tours and one-off collaborations across the indie, electronic, and R&B spheres, Rhye continues to write music focused on vocal sensuality, discreet textures, and an emphasis on nuance rather than effect.
