Gia Margaret

Based in Chicago, Gia Margaret has, since the late 2010s, developed a delicate songwriting style at the intersection of indie folk, dream pop and ambient, often described by the term “sleep rock.” After several self‑released tracks, she brought her intimate songwriting to wider attention with the album “There’s Always Glimmer” (2018), where hushed vocals, guitar and restrained keyboards shape slow, melodic songs. A condition affecting her vocal cords then led her to turn to primarily instrumental work and to further explore piano and electronic textures — an approach embodied by “Mia Gargaret” (2020) and later by “Romantic Piano” (2023), marked by spare pieces close to neoclassical music and minimalist ambient. Alternating sung and instrumental pieces, Gia Margaret favors understated arrangements, measured tempos and recurring motifs that create a contemplative atmosphere. Active on independent stages in the United States and Europe, she occasionally collaborates with other artists — notably Welsh musician Novo Amor — and continues a studio‑centered compositional practice, between chamber songs and piano pieces.
