The Dip

Based in Seattle, The Dip has been exploring a rhythm-and-blues-tinged soul since the early 2010s, with horns playing a central role. This seven-piece band blends the legacy of American soul from the 1960s and 70s with direct pop songwriting, mid-tempo grooves, and a deliberately warm, live-minded production. The Dip moves between slow ballads, more dance-oriented tracks, and lightly funk-inflected numbers, giving plenty of space to the singer's voice and the trumpet and saxophone arrangements. After several initial self-releases, the group became more structured around steady studio and stage work, touring North America and then Europe, which gradually established The Dip on the club and mid-sized venue circuits. The 2019 album The Dip Delivers affirmed this guitar-and-horns soul approach, while 2022's Sticking With It extended the formula with more finely crafted songs, particular care for vocal harmonies, and an increased emphasis on the textures of the rhythm section.
