Busty and the Bass

Founded in Montreal in 2011 by students from McGill University’s Schulich School of Music, Busty and the Bass began as an instrumental collective before gradually incorporating more singing and pop songwriting. The band crafts a sound that blends soul, jazz, R&B, funk, hip‑hop and dance music, with brass instruments playing a central role and giving the ensemble a sound that is both smooth and highly rhythmic. After the EPs GLAM (2015) and LIFT (2016), the collective released the album Uncommon Good in 2017 and Eddie in 2020 — notably featuring a collaboration with George Clinton — followed by ET Suite in 2021, Karneval in 2022 and the album Forever Never Cares in 2023, which includes contributions from, among others, Terrace Martin and Katie Tupper. Busty and the Bass have performed across Canada, the United States and Europe, and at festivals such as Osheaga, the Montreal International Jazz Festival, Pinkpop, SXSW and Made in America. After singer Nick Ferraro’s departure in 2022, Busty and the Bass evolved its formula by broadening its vocal palette and live configurations while preserving the collective songwriting fueled by groove, jazz harmonies and an open approach to songcraft.
