Contrefaçon

Born on the Paris electronic scene in the mid‑2010s, Contrefaçon established itself as a collective bringing together producers, directors and graphic designers around a strongly narrative audiovisual universe. Its music sits at the crossroads of techno, trance, industrial and more atmospheric soundscapes, favoring tense climates, progressive builds and abrupt ruptures. Each release is conceived as a fragmented narrative in which tracks, clips and visuals form a coherent whole, fed by references to cinema, TV series and internet culture. Initially distributed online through singles and short films, the collective consolidated its identity via several independently released EPs and long formats, cultivating an aesthetic of abrasive textures, pared‑down melodic motifs and structures close to a soundtrack. On stage, Contrefaçon translates this approach into performances synchronized with images edited like a film, presented in clubs, venues and festivals in France and abroad. The creative core collaborates occasionally with external vocalists, actors and videographers while maintaining a unified artistic direction, placing Contrefaçon within a strand of the French electronic scene that blurs the boundaries between live performance, video installation and serial fiction.
