Destroy Boys

Born in the mid‑2010s out of Sacramento’s DIY scene in California, Destroy Boys coalesced around the friendship between singer‑guitarist Alexia Roditis and guitarist Violet Mayugba, first cutting their teeth in small local venues before becoming part of the broader North American punk resurgence. Operating as a trio with a rotating rhythm section, the band hones a fast, melodic brand of punk rock shot through with pop‑punk, garage, and grunge elements, paired with plainspoken lyrics about identity, relationships, gender‑based violence, and mental health. After a handful of self‑released tracks and a split with indie outfit Mom Jeans, Destroy Boys issued their debut album, “Sorry, Mom,” in 2016, followed by “Make Room” in 2018, as touring expanded from the West Coast to nationwide runs. Later signing with Hopeless Records, Destroy Boys released “Open Mouth, Open Heart” in 2021, a record that heightens the contrasts between punk urgency, more melodic passages, and emo influences, while remaining firmly rooted in activist networks and queer and feminist alternative scenes.
