Curses

Based in Berlin after growing up in New York, Curses develops a project where post‑punk heritage, new wave and contemporary club culture intersect. Behind the name stands producer and DJ Luca Venezia, who since the early 2010s has been shaping a dark, melodic musical identity marked by the use of voice, guitars and electronic basslines designed for the dancefloor. In 2018 Curses released the album “Romantic Fiction” on Dischi Autunno, which established an aesthetic between dark disco, cold wave and synth‑pop, and continued this approach in 2022 with “Incarnadine”, again on Jennifer Cardini’s label. At the same time Curses runs the Ombra INTL label, focused on hybridisations between club music and post‑punk influences, and presents a more narrative side of his universe in live band performances. Present on many European and international stages, Curses alternates DJ sets oriented towards slow, tense techno, EBM and Italo with performances where the rock dimension and song structures take a more prominent role. Curses can also be heard on the radio with the show “Together Alone” on Rinse, which extends this exploration of links between electronic sonorities, wave and alternative music.
