Kalandra

Formed in Norway around the singer and songwriter Katrine Stenbekk, Kalandra develops a sound at the crossroads of alternative rock, atmospheric folk and a Nordic aesthetic with cinematic textures. The band takes shape in the early 2010s and circulated its early tracks before releasing the Borders EP in 2014. Kalandra then settles into a band format where arrangements mix electric and acoustic guitars, rock pulsations, ambient layers and clear vocals, with a writing that favors contrasts between tension, spareness and melodic scope. Their cover of Helvegen draws broader attention in the late 2010s, in a context where their music also circulates to an audience receptive to film soundtracks, neofolk and contemplative rock forms. In 2020, Kalandra released its first album, The Line, followed by A Frame of Mind in 2023. Through releases and touring, Kalandra asserts a coherent identity, between restrained energy, misty moods and open choruses, on stages ranging from alternative rock to more transversal programming.
