Easy Life

Formed in Leicester in 2017 around singer-songwriter Murray Matravers, Easy Life established itself as a group blending indie pop, alternative pop, melodic hip-hop, soul and touches of jazz into supple songs often built on laid-back rhythms and choruses that blur singing and rapping. The band first drew attention with the single “Pockets”, then with the mixtapes Creature Habits (2018), Spaceships (2019) and Junk Food (2020), which set out a lyrical approach that is everyday, melancholic and light at once—far from both frontal rock and pure rap. Fronted by Murray Matravers alongside Oliver Cassidy, Lewis Berry and Jordan Birtles, Easy Life quickly moved from early online releases to the UK live scene, with notable appearances via BBC Introducing, at Glastonbury and on British television. The group later released the albums Life’s a Beach (2021) and Maybe in Another Life... (2022), continuing that blend of independent pop, nonchalant groove and understated arrangements. In 2023 the band stopped using the name following a dispute with easyGroup, re-emerging in 2024 under the name hard life.
