Dita Von Teese
Born in Michigan and raised in Southern California, Dita Von Teese, whose real name is Heather Renée Sweet, emerged in the 1990s with stage work centered on burlesque, cabaret and theatrical striptease. Her visual universe draws on Hollywood's Golden Age, pin‑ups, vintage lingerie and revues from the 1930s to the 1950s, with scenes constructed like true stage numbers. Dita Von Teese first gained attention in American alternative circuits before taking her creations to international productions, notably at the Crazy Horse in Paris and on several revue tours, including Strip Strip Hooray from 2012. While she does not belong to the musical field in the strict sense, her shows rely on soundtracks that blend swing, jazz, orchestral pop and electronic touches, consistent with a sophisticated retro aesthetic. Alongside her stage career, Dita Von Teese has developed a presence in publishing, film, music videos and fashion, and is associated with the reintegration of neo‑burlesque vocabulary into popular culture.
