David Rodigan
Born in 1951 in Hanover, West Germany, and after a spell in Oxford, England, David Rodigan began DJing as a teenager with a focus on Jamaican reggae — from roots and dub to dancehall. He broke onto the London airwaves in the late 1970s, first on Radio London and later joining Capital Radio, where his show Roots Rockers remained on the air for eleven years. Rodigan continued promoting reggae on stations such as Kiss FM, BFBS Radio, BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 1Xtra, presenting selections that linked sound system classics, rub-a-dub and more recent dancehall productions. Alongside his radio work he performed as a DJ in the sound clash culture, facing soundsystems like Killamanjaro, Stone Love, Barry G and Bass Odyssey; he won the World Clash in New York in 2012. His career also includes work as a touring DJ, notably for Shinehead.
