A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie
Born in the Highbridge neighborhood of the Bronx in New York, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, real name Artist Julius Dubose, rose to prominence from the mid-2010s with melodic rap that blends New York hip-hop, trap, and sung hooks. After a first, well-received project, Artist, in 2016, he develops a writing focused on relationships, intimate tensions, and neighborhood life, in a format where smooth verses, autotuned vocal lines, and dark but accessible productions alternate. His career quickly centers around his hometown, the Highbridge the Label collective, and larger stages, notably with opening acts on Drake and Future's Summer Sixteen tour, before becoming a regular presence on the American rap scene. A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie then releases The Bigger Artist in 2017, Hoodie SZN in 2018, Artist 2.0 in 2020, Me vs. Myself in 2022, and Better Off Alone in 2024. Over the course of these records, his style evolves toward a more hybrid approach, where trap codes sit alongside contemporary R&B and a subtle pop sensibility. A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie has also pursued numerous collaborations with artists from the American rap and R&B scenes, while maintaining a strong anchor in the Bronx and in a melancholic, direct, and highly vocal urban aesthetic.
