Ziggy Marley

Born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1968, Ziggy Marley, whose real name is David Nesta Marley, grew up in the Marley family and was immersed early on in the roots reggae environment. From the mid-1980s he led, together with his brothers and sisters, the group Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, which developed a reggae sound blended with pop and rock touches on albums such as Play the Game Right (1985), Conscious Party (1988) and Jahmekya (1991). Alongside that group experience — and from the 2000s onward as a solo artist — Ziggy Marley honed a songwriting approach focused on spirituality, social issues and everyday life, carried by a supple vocal delivery and arrangements that weave together Jamaican heritage, American influences and more pop-oriented formats. His solo discography begins with Dragonfly (2003) and continues notably with Love Is My Religion (2006), Family Time (2009), Wild and Free (2011), Fly Rasta (2014), Ziggy Marley (2016), Rebellion Rises (2018) and More Family Time (2020). Active on international stages, he also participates in various film and animation projects and runs his label Tuff Gong Worldwide, thereby extending the Marley family's musical legacy into a contemporary framework.
