The Movement
Born in Columbia, South Carolina, The Movement took shape in 2003 around Josh Swain and Jordan Miller before expanding in Philadelphia with the arrival of bassist Jason Schmidt and drummer Gary Jackson. The Movement developed a repertoire at the crossroads of reggae, dub, reggae rock and hip-hop, featuring accessible melodic lines, a flexible rhythmic approach and acoustic passages that remain present throughout their discography. The band released On Your Feet in 2004 and Set Sail in 2008, around the time their live activity became established on the American reggae-rock circuit. After One More Night in 2010, The Movement went through several lineup changes: Josh Swain stepped away for a time, Jordan Miller later left the project, and Swain returned to lead vocals and guitar in 2012. This new phase produced Side By Side in 2013, the acoustic album Beneath the Palms in 2014, Golden in 2016 and Ways of the World in 2019. Since then The Movement has continued on this path with Always With Me in 2022 and Visions in 2025, also incorporating collaborations with Stick Figure, Slightly Stoopid, Iration and Clinton Fearon. The current core of The Movement comprises Josh Swain, Jason Schmidt, Gary Jackson, Matt Goodwin and Kyle Jerome.
