Beverly Jo Scott
Born in Deer Park, Alabama in 1959 and raised in Bay Minette, Beverly Jo Scott belongs to an American songwriting tradition rooted in rock and blues rock, driven by voice and guitar. After spells in New Orleans and California, she settled in Brussels in 1982, which became the starting point for a career unfolding between Belgium, France and Germany on club stages, festivals and concert halls. Her discography begins in the early 1990s with Honey and Hurricanes (1991), followed by Mudcakes (1993), The Wailing Trail (1995), Amnesty for Eve (1999), Divine Rebel (2003), Cut and Run (2005), Dix Vagues (2008) and Swamp Cabaret (2014). Her repertoire mixes direct songwriting, a blues grounding and a Southern colour inherited from her origins, while keeping a restrained, organic form of rock. Beverly Jo Scott has also developed stage projects such as Planet Janis in 2010 and Swamp Cabaret, which focuses on the Gulf Coast. Alongside her musical work, she co-wrote the song “Rhythm Inside” with Loïc Nottet for Eurovision 2015 and has been a longstanding presence in the Belgian audiovisual scene, notably as a coach on The Voice Belgique from 2011.
