Vic Mensa

Born and raised in Chicago, in the Hyde Park neighborhood, Vic Mensa first made a name for himself with the group Kids These Days, then with the SaveMoney collective, before embarking on a solo career at the crossroads of Chicago hip-hop, alternative rap, drill, punk rap and touches of soul or house. His first defining project, the Innanetape mixtape in 2013, already set a dense writing and a very open format, later extended by tracks like Down on My Luck in 2014, oriented toward hip house, or U Mad in 2015 with Kanye West, more frontal and rooted in drill energy. Vic Mensa has also collaborated with artists like Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Pusha T, Skrillex or Wyclef Jean, while moving through various scenes and contexts, from independent rap to more mainstream circuits. His EP There’s Alot Going On in 2016 directly addresses police violence, mental health and social tensions, a reflective vein he develops on The Autobiography in 2017, then on V Tape in 2020, I Tape in 2021 and Victor in 2023. In parallel, Vic Mensa launched 93 Punx, a collective project where he blends abrasive guitars, chanted singing and the heritage of hip-hop, confirming a deliberately mobile trajectory between formats, scenes and aesthetics.
