Tony Hadley

Born in Islington, north London, Tony Hadley emerged around the turn of the 1980s as the voice of Spandau Ballet, a band from the British new wave and new romantic scene whose songwriting blended sophisticated pop, white soul and elegant rock. With the group formed in the late 1970s, Hadley spent the decade performing hits such as “True”, “Gold” and “Through the Barricades” before the band’s first split in 1990. He then launched a solo career that broadened his range—from adult pop and dance experiments to a more swing- and jazz-influenced repertoire, evident on albums like The State of Play (1992), Tony Hadley (1997), Passing Strangers (2006) and Talking to the Moon (2018). Over the years he has collaborated with artists including Tin Tin Out, Alan Parsons and Caparezza, and has appeared in musical theatre, notably in Chicago. After Spandau Ballet reformed in 2009, he left the group again in 2017 and has since maintained an active solo career, performing with his band or with orchestral accompaniment in a repertoire that mixes melodic pop, soul ballads and the classics of his career.
