The Adventures
Formed in Belfast in 1984 around singer Terry Sharpe and guitarist Pat Gribben, after their stint with The Starjets, The Adventures also brought together Eileen Gribben, Gerard Murphy, Tony Ayre, Paul Crowder and Jonathan Whitehead in a pop‑rock lineup influenced by the British new wave of the 1980s. Initially based in London, The Adventures first signed to Chrysalis and released Theodore and Friends in 1985, at a time when the band toured with acts such as Tears for Fears. After changing labels, they honed a broader, more melodic songwriting style on The Sea of Love (1988), led by the track Broken Land, then moved toward a more nuanced pop‑rock sound with touches of Irish folk on Trading Secrets with the Moon (1990). Reduced to a tighter core, the band followed with Lions and Tigers and Bears in 1993 before splitting the same year. The Adventures have reformed intermittently for live shows from 2007, again in 2009 and once more since 2019, mainly in Belfast. After more than three decades between studio albums, The Adventures released Once More with Feeling in 2025.
