Horse

Born in Newport-on-Tay in Fife and raised in Anstruther, Scotland, Horse McDonald emerged in the late 1980s as a singer-songwriter whose work blends pop, soul and indie, driven by a direct vocal delivery and often rock-influenced arrangements. She began to attract attention with the singles from The Same Sky, released in 1990, and continued with God’s Home Movie in 1993 — two records that established the foundations of her aesthetic, balancing melodic intensity, guitar and a strong sense of chorus. Prior to this period, Horse McDonald also toured with Tina Turner and B.B. King, an important milestone in her performance career. Over the years she has pursued a more independent path, notably releasing Both Sides with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra in 2000, followed by Hindsight... It’s a Wonderful Thing (2001), Only All of Me (2003), Coveted (2004), Red Haired Girl (2007), Coming Up for Air (2009), Home (2013) and The Road Less Travelled (2024). On stage and in the studio, Horse McDonald blends acoustic formats, pop-rock tension and soul colours in a repertoire that has remained closely tied to the Scottish scene.
