Theo Katzman

Born in New York in 1986, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Theo Katzman grew up in the Long Island area before refining his musical path at the University of Michigan, where he became active in the local rock and funk scenes. After a stint with the electro-pop group My Dear Disco/Ella Riot, Katzman came to prominence as a guitarist, drummer and vocalist in the independent funk collective Vulfpeck, developing a style centered on groove, vocal harmonies and precise melodic songwriting. At the same time he has pursued a solo career drawing as much from 1970s pop rock as from soul and folk, favoring song-based formats, spare arrangements and introspective lyrics sometimes tinged with humor. His debut solo album Romance Without Finance was released in 2011, followed by Heartbreak Hits in 2017, Modern Johnny Sings: Songs in the Age of Vibe in 2020, and Be the Wheel in 2024, which cements his foothold between soft rock, pop soul and acoustic ballads. Based in Los Angeles, Theo Katzman alternates solo tours with performances with Vulfpeck across North America and Europe, and regularly collaborates with musicians orbiting the collective both in the studio and on stage.
