Tortoise
Formed in Chicago in 1990, Tortoise has become one of the most distinctive and influential bands on the experimental music scene worldwide. Composed of Jeff Parker, Dan Bitney, Douglas McCombs, John Herndon and John McEntire, the quintet redefined the boundaries of instrumental rock by blending jazz, electronics, dub and minimalism. Pioneers of the post-rock movement, they left a lasting mark on the 1990s with cult albums such as Millions Now Living Will Never Die (1996), TNT (1998) and Standards (2001). True to a free, organic approach, Tortoise has spent more than three decades exploring sound, crafting music that is cerebral, hypnotic and decidedly timeless.
