The Kiffness

Behind The Kiffness is David Scott, a South African musician, producer and videographer born in 1988. He was initially active in jazz ensembles, rock bands and as a DJ before developing this project at the crossroads of electro-pop, house, musical satire and remix. Originally conceived as a band — notably with musician Clem Carr alongside him — The Kiffness later became the name under which David Scott pursues a solo practice. His work is marked by short, melodic and rhythmic pieces often built from voices found online, animal sounds, public utterances or viral clips reworked into songs. This approach became central from 2020 onward, continuing a trajectory begun with the EP Kiff in 2014 and Soul Safari in 2017. The Kiffness also released Cat Jams in 2021, an extension of the more playful side of his universe, and has collaborated at times with Matthew Gold, Shortstraw, Samthing Soweto, Macka B and Bilal Göregen. Between humour, social commentary and formats designed for both stage and the web, The Kiffness has expanded its project from a South African base to international visibility, notably with tracks like Ievan Polkka (Cat Cover) in 2020 and They’re Eating The Cats in 2024.
