Teebee
Born in Bergen, Norway, Torgeir Byrknes, who records as Teebee, began an early trajectory in European drum and bass from the mid-1990s, at a time when the scene remained largely UK-centered. His work is anchored in a dark, precise, and tense aesthetic, balancing techstep, neurofunk, and futuristic drum and bass, with a marked focus on atmospheres, tight bass and detailed rhythmic constructions. After early singles as of 1996 on British labels such as A-Level and Rugged Vinyl, Teebee released Black Science in 1999 on Polar, followed by Black Science Labs (2000), Through the Eyes of a Scorpion (2001), and The Legacy (2004). In parallel, he founded the Subtitles label with K, a significant platform for his own productions and for those of other drum and bass artists. Teebee also circulated his music on labels such as Moving Shadow, Certificate 18, Photek Productions, and Metalheadz, which accompanied his durable integration into international circuits of the scene. From the late 2000s, his collaboration with Calyx became central with Anatomy (2008), then All or Nothing (2012) and 1x1 (2016), in a more direct and club-oriented vein while remaining rooted in Teebee’s dark and methodical writing.
