The Magic Numbers

Formed in 2002 in Hanwell, west London, The Magic Numbers bring together two sets of siblings: Romeo and Michele Stodart alongside Angela and Sean Gannon. The British quartet occupies a space between alternative rock and indie rock, with melodic songwriting focused on vocal harmonies, supple guitars and a pop‑folk sensibility present across parts of their repertoire. After beginnings on the London scene, The Magic Numbers gained notice touring with Travis, Ed Harcourt and Snow Patrol, before releasing the album The Magic Numbers in 2005 and Those the Brokes in 2006. Their subsequent releases include The Runaway (2010), Alias (2014) and Outsiders (2018), and in between they undertook an acoustic tour of the UK and Ireland that highlighted a more stripped‑back side of their music. The Magic Numbers have also contributed to various projects beyond their albums, notably with The Chemical Brothers, Ed Harcourt and Jane Birkin. Over time the band has retained an identity built on collective playing, alternating vocal duties and a balance between song form, spare arrangements and rock energy.
