Swizz Beatz
Born in the Bronx, New York, under the name Kasseem Dean, Swizz Beatz established himself in the late 1990s in New York rap as a producer, DJ, and rapper affiliated with Ruff Ryders Entertainment. His rise came through his work with DMX, notably on 'Ruff Ryders’ Anthem' in 1998, followed by a string of productions for Jay-Z, Eve, Busta Rhymes, T.I., and Beyoncé. Swizz Beatz developed a signature rooted in East Coast hip-hop, built on dry rhythms, direct hooks, and a club energy that links street rap, American mainstream, and formats designed for the stage. In the early 2000s, he founded the Full Surface Records label and accompanied, among others, Cassidy, while pursuing a solo career with Swizz Beatz Presents G.H.E.T.T.O. Stories in 2002, One Man Band Man in 2007, and Poison in 2018. His career quickly extended beyond rap alone, with productions for pop and R&B, as well as a visible role in DJ culture and live performances. In the 2020s, Swizz Beatz further broadened his scope by co-creating Verzuz with Timbaland, which has become a central space for dialoguing hip-hop and R&B repertoires.
