Lloyd Banks
Born in 1982 in New Carrollton, Maryland, and raised in South Jamaica, Queens, New York, Lloyd Banks rose to prominence in the early 2000s as part of the G-Unit collective around 50 Cent, initially through an intense presence on the New York mixtape scene. His style is rooted in East Coast hip-hop, marked by dense lyrics, a taste for punchlines and street narratives over dark, melodic productions. With G-Unit he contributed to the album Beg for Mercy in 2003, before launching his solo career with The Hunger for More in 2004 and Rotten Apple in 2006—projects that firmly established him in mainstream American rap. After H.F.M. 2 (The Hunger for More 2) in 2010, Lloyd Banks moved toward a more independent approach, releasing numerous mixtapes and collaborations in a hardcore, street-oriented register while remaining connected to the G-Unit dynamic. His return to studio albums came with The Course of the Inevitable in 2021, followed by The Course of the Inevitable 2 in 2022 and The Course of the Inevitable III: Pieces of My Pain in 2023, confirming the continuity of his aesthetic: technical, introspective rap tied to Queens’ codes.
