Joe Jackson
Joe Jackson is a British singer-songwriter born in 1954 in Burton upon Trent. He began recording under his own name after studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London. His first album, Look Sharp!, was released in January 1979, followed shortly by I’m the Man (October 1979) and Beat Crazy (October 1980). In June 1982 Joe Jackson issued Night and Day, which included the single “Steppin’ Out,” reaching number 6 in both the United States and the United Kingdom. He went on to release Body and Soul (March 1984), Big World (March 1986)—originally conceived as a live album—then Will Power (April 1987), Blaze of Glory (April 1989) and Laughter & Lust (April 1991). After ventures into classical and orchestral projects, he returned to the band format with Volume 4 in March 2003 and later released Rain (January 2008), Fast Forward (October 2015), Fool (January 2019) and What a Racket! (November 2023). While “Steppin’ Out” remains a landmark of his discography, Jackson is also noted for moving freely between pop, rock, new wave and orchestral composition across more than forty years of work. Periodically reforming the Joe Jackson Band and continuing to tour internationally, he maintains an active, varied career of recordings, concerts and stylistic exploration. His name still appears in charts and anthologies, and his discography continues to attract attention for its multifaceted output.
