Saga

Formed in Oakville, Ontario, in 1977 around Michael Sadler, Jim Crichton, Ian Crichton and Steve Negus, Saga is part of melodic progressive rock with neo‑prog overtones, marked by prominent keyboards, taut guitars and songwriting that blends complex structures with more direct formats. After Saga (1978), Images at Twilight (1979) and Silent Knight (1980), the addition of Jim Gilmour stabilized the band's sound, which quickly found lasting resonance in Europe—especially Germany, where Saga toured regularly from the early 1980s. Worlds Apart (1981) and Heads or Tales (1983) define this most characteristic period of the band, before more marked developments on Behaviour (1985), Generation 13 (1995), House of Cards (2001), Trust (2006), 20/20 (2012) and Sagacity (2014). Saga's history also includes several lineup changes: Michael Sadler left in 2007, was temporarily replaced by Rob Moratti on The Human Condition (2009), and returned in 2011. After a farewell tour concluded in 2018, Saga resumed activity in 2019, extending a career begun in the late 1970s that balances fidelity to progressive rock with a gradual adaptation of its songwriting and lineup.
