Robert Babicz

Born in Niemodlin, Poland, in 1973 and living in Germany since childhood, Robert Babicz has since the early 1990s developed a career tied to techno, acid techno, and forms of electronic music that are more melodic and minimal. Active under his own name as well as under several aliases, notably Rob Acid and Dicabor, he released his first maxis as early as 1992, before co-founding Junkfood Records with Michael Zosel in the mid-1990s. His work then alternates between tight acid, hypnotic techno, ambient and more experimental textures, with releases on labels such as Force Inc., Mille Plateaux, Systematic, Traum, or Bedrock. Robert Babicz is also part of this generation of electronic artists whose live performance occupies a central place, on club and festival stages in Germany as well as internationally. Among his albums released under his name are MoMente in 1998, Desert in 2000, A Cheerful Temper in 2007, Immortal Changes in 2010, The Owl and the Butterfly in 2013, A Moment Of Loud Silence in 2016, Utopia in 2020 and Light Of The Universe in 2023. His discography shows a progressive shift from a raw acid vocabulary toward deeper, more flexible and narrative techno, while maintaining a strong taste for winding basslines, repetitive motifs and detailed atmospheres.
